We believe that in the end it is this which makes a business successful, not making an extra bit of profit.

Today started off very well. A satisfied customer brought in a home-cooked Thai green curry to say thanks. It was very much appreciated.

What an interesting week! On Tuesday we visited the annual Students Project Fair at Swansea University. It was great to see the innovative ideas some of these guys were working on. Schemes to improve emergency response times, systems for avoiding train accidents, turning a smartphone into a simple projector. I was particularly impressed with the enthusiasm for using Lego Mindstorms to teach computing in schools.

Howard has started delivering ECDL courses with a module about IT Fundamentals. He went off this morning armed with mainboards, graphic cards, hard drives and the like for those who’d never got up close and personal with the insides of a PC.

Guess what we found last weekend while clearing out a storage unit? A ZX81 . Have any readers out there still got one?

50% public procurement is now going to SMEs. Microsoft is scared of open standards and are asking their partners and resellers to write to the government. They are especially worried about open document format.

Microsoft Intune now supports Apple and Android. Allegedly…

They’re pushing Cloud solutions hard. To be efficient Cloud needs the scripting language Powershell to add functionality to the operating system (a bit like batch files).

Just watched Windows 8 demo on a MAC airbook! How weird is that?

Windows phone on Nokia – impressive demo of speaking English and translating to voice in French. Another reason not to learn a language.

Now I don’t like to boast but we always offer good quality products at very competitive prices. That’s how I spotted a scammer the other day.

The guy came in for a 3.5″ hard drive and when shown two different brands, (Western Digital and Samsung), both for £55, maintained he could get them cheaper on the internet. Well I’m not sure where he was looking – Amazon can’t do better for 5400rpm, let alone 7200rpm which ours are.

He wasn’t interested in details of the speed although he was allegedly building his own machine!
Unfortunately he was probably “casing the joint”.

Call us if you want prices on any computers, accessories or components. 01792 422616
We’ve still got hundreds of products to add to our online shop (when Wendy’s got time!)
Check it out on http://www.giakonda.co.uk

We get the strangest requests for IT help here in Swansea.
Just yesterday, a customer came in in a desperate state. He was about to set off for Leicester and, while fiddling with his NAVMAN, had accidentally set the language to Dutch! He couldn’t face a few hours of gobbledegook instructions so asked us at Giakonda IT for help.

Isn’t the internet great? Within minutes I’d translated the onscreen Dutch, found the Settings and reset the language (Taal in Dutch by the way).

Another happy client!
